HonestPing Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Applies to: the website honestping.com and the HonestPing app for Windows

Who we are: Honest Ping LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("HonestPing," "we," "us"). Contact: hello@honestping.com

The short version

1. What this policy covers

This policy covers personal information we collect through honestping.com, the HonestPing Windows app, and emails you send us. It doesn't cover other companies' sites or services, even when we link to them.

2. The website (honestping.com)

Hosting and security (Cloudflare). Cloudflare, which hosts our website, processes standard connection data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don't use this data to identify visitors.

Waitlist. When you join the waitlist, we collect your email address. We use your email only to tell you when HonestPing is available. We don't send marketing email unless you ask for it. The form opens your email app and sends to hello@honestping.com. We keep it until 12 months after launch, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.

Contact. If you email us, we get what you send. We use it to reply. We keep it for 24 months after our last contact, unless we sign an agreement with you. Our email is hosted by Google.

Cookies. This site doesn't use cookies.

3. The HonestPing app

3.1 What stays on your PC

HonestPing stores these only on your PC, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\PingTray:

We can't see any of this. Uninstalling HonestPing leaves your history in place so a reinstall keeps it. Delete the folder above to remove it.

Network checks. To tell whether a problem is on your side or further out, HonestPing sends small test messages (pings) to your router and to public servers run by Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google (8.8.8.8, google.com) and Quad9 (9.9.9.9), and it checks whether services you choose to monitor answer. These checks don't contain your personal data, but like any internet connection, the servers they reach can see your public IP address. Speed tests and load tests, which you start yourself, download test data from Cloudflare (falling back to OVH) and upload made-up test data, not your files, to Cloudflare (falling back to httpbin.org).

Update check. When you press Check for updates, HonestPing reads a small file from honestping.com. That request includes your IP address and app version, like any web request.

LAN compare. LAN compare is off until you turn it on. Shares a small status snapshot with other HonestPing PCs on your home network. No addresses or history.

3.2 Crash reports

In this version, crash reports are saved on your PC and aren't sent to us.

3.3 Bug reports and feature requests

Bug reports and feature requests. The public version of the app doesn't send bug reports or feature requests to us. If you email us instead, your message stays in our email (Google) until we no longer need it, and we'll delete it if you ask.

Preview features. If you turn on preview features and send a bug report or feature request from the app, it goes to our feedback service, which runs on Cloudflare. It includes what you type, any screenshot you add, and only the details you tick: app version, Windows version, and the screen you were on. Recent log lines are attached only if you tick the box. We try to remove personal details from them, and you can preview them before sending. We don't check screenshots, and we can't catch everything you type, so please leave out passwords, account numbers, names, phone numbers and street addresses. We delete reports and screenshots after 12 months, or sooner if you ask at hello@honestping.com.

3.4 Provider name lookup

To show your provider, HonestPing asks a public lookup service, which sees your public IP address. We don't receive it. In order, HonestPing tries api.ipify.org, Cloudflare (1.1.1.1/cdn-cgi/trace) and icanhazip.com for your public IP address, then ipapi.co and ipwho.is for the provider name. These services receive your public IP address and handle it under their own privacy policies. HonestPing doesn't show your IP address, save it, or send it to us. On by default in the US and most other regions. In the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Canada, or if your region is unknown, it runs only if you allow it. Turn it off with Settings → Privacy → Show my provider's name (or set Isp=0 in settings.txt), and it stops right away.

6. Who we share information with

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We share it only:

7. Grouped and de-identified data

When we combine information into totals that can't reasonably be linked to a person or household (for example, a total that can't be linked back to one person), we keep it in that form and we won't try to re-identify anyone. Anyone we share such data with must agree in writing not to re-identify it or combine it with other data to identify people, and we check that they keep that promise.

8. How long we keep information

Information How long
Crash reports Saved on your PC. Not sent to us
Your IP address on our servers Not stored
Bug reports and feature requests Public version: not sent to us
Feedback service 12 months
Waitlist email Until 12 months after launch, or until you unsubscribe
Emails and ISP inquiries 24 months after our last contact

9. Your choices and rights

In the app: turn off provider name lookup and LAN compare in Settings → Privacy. Delete local data by removing %LOCALAPPDATA%\PingTray.

By email: write to hello@honestping.com to ask what we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. We'll answer within 45 days (one month in the EU and UK) and may need to confirm it's you, usually by replying from the same email address. We'll delete everything else and tell you what we kept and why.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising. We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Email hello@honestping.com and we'll respond within 45 days.

EU, EEA, UK and Swiss users. Honest Ping LLC is the controller. Our legal bases are: your consent (provider name lookup in regions where it stays off until you turn it on in Settings, and the waitlist); our legitimate interests in fixing bugs, keeping the service secure and replying to messages; and legal obligation (tax records). You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings or by emailing us. Withdrawing doesn't affect what was done before. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and you can complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO). Our service providers are mainly in the United States. We rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and UK Addendum, or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider participates in it. We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.

10. Children

HonestPing isn't directed at children under 13 (under 16 in the EU/UK), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

11. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for everything HonestPing sends, private storage for attachments, access limited to HonestPing's owner with two-factor sign-in. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as the law requires.

12. Changes to this policy

We'll post changes here and update the date at the top. If a change lets us collect or share your information in a materially new way, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we'll ask for your OK where the law requires. We won't apply a less protective policy to information we collected under an earlier one. Earlier versions are available at honestping.com/privacy/history.
